Greetings from Gibraltar

I'm sitting in a web cafe in Gibraltar. On the journey down we noticed that more oil than usual was coming from the engine, which isn't too surprising given that we've been driving hard over mountain passes for ten hours on the trot in Mediterranean heat.

Rather than find we have problems later where it'd be harder to get stuff fixed, we've dropped the 101 into Salamanca Land Rover near Marbella, to get the crankshaft oil seal replaced. This isn't a major job in itself, but you have to drop the gearbox out to get to it, so it's not the sort of thing I'd fancy doing at the side of the road.

Salamanca is also a dealer for Ferrari, Aston Martin and Bentley, so the 101 did look a bit out of place parked up there, but it got a lot more attention than any of the supercars! We've left it in their capable hands and hired a car for a couple of days. The delay is a bit annoying but it seems to make sense. We're hoping Salamanca won't have a problem getting parts, because if stuff needs shipping from UK that will mean we're sitting around for a while.

Gibraltar is a crazy mix of Spanish and British influences. We'll probably stay in Tarifa tonight. Now off to the top of the Rock!
