Progress on the Brakes

Well, Humphreys decided they wouldn't touch the brakes, so I ended up buying a pressure brake bleeding kit, which uses the pressure from the tyre to push the fluid through, although I was recommended not to use one on the 101. (I found out why when I sprayed highly corrosive brake fluid all over the cab; PTFE tape solved that.) The fittings they supply don't fit the 101 reservoir, so I had to drill one of the existing caps.

1 bleed later and... nothing. So I figured it had to be a problem with the master cylinder. The only thing it could really be was the seals. I took it off and disassembled it again, and it seemed that one of the seals was the wrong way round. I fitted it the same way round as the one I took off, but I turned it the other way, reassembled everything, bled the whole system and... the brakes seem to work again.

The seal was stopping the piston in the master cylinder from springing back, which was what was leading to no response from the brakes. The existing seal must have been just loose enough to not cause a problem when wrongly fitted, but the new one wasn't.

4 jobs left: collect the money, replace the axle casing, pack, and lash the heavy stuff down.
