Dakhla

Hi there. abby typing now from an internet cafe in Dakhla, the
southernmost town in Western Sahara. Typing is really tough as French
keyboards have many letters in different places. Please excuse the
typos.

We set off pretty early at 8 from our berth outside the police
station. We had about 300km to do today. The landscape was at
times rocky hamada and at times more picture book sand dunes. In the
hamada part there are many types or plant; some red flowering
succulents, and 3 or 4 different things that look reminiscent of
heathers or sage. We passed 3 herds of camels on the road and saw an
equivalent number of very convincing mirages.

Now at a campsite in Dakhla we have been petitioned by a host of young
European travellers like ourselves looking for a lift south from here
as there are no cross border buses. We`re going to set off at 6.30
with a French couple and make our push for the border before it gets
to the heat of the day. It is about 400 km away from here. Wish us
luck!

David spent some time this afternoon checking oil levels in various
bits of the truck, and tightening anything that had worked loose.
Dakhla provided us with a fine meal - being the premier fishing port
for Morocco I went for the sea food. David`s vegetarianism is in
suspension for a while so he had the kefta (meatballs). Do keep
texting us - we love getting your messages. Love, D&A

I enjoy your descriptions of the landscape and your encounters with common (and uncommon) folk, though I thought your reference to "succulent" might have been reserved for describing your fish supper in dakhla.I hope your latest border crossing passed without a hitch - other than the french couple of course!
